Scouts walk to the moon

20 Apr

Hi All,

Uk Scouting have asked all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders, Helpers and parents to become involved in their #HikeToTheMoon challenge.

This is to support an event being jointly run by Children in Need and Comic Relief to raise money for those that need it at this challenging time while exercising as well. It will also tick off part of your World Challenge badges.

The night of the event is next Thursday 23rd April. The distance to the moon is 240,000 miles apparently. In order to reach that distance, each of us needs to walk a mile, approximately 2,000 steps or 20minutes walking on the spot.

We would love it if everyone got involved. The easiest way for us to track who has completed this challenge, would be for you to let us know when you have completed your mile. Ideally this would be with a picture/screenshot of an app or pedometer to show your completion. This can be through email or on our Twitter page @tarporleyscouts.

Obviously the donation you choose to make is up to you.

As the time for this challenge is limited, we would like you to let us know by the 22nd please so that we can calculate our troop miles and notify UK Scouting of our total.

The other scounting event taking place this week is St. Georges Day. Normally we would be on parade but due to our current situation this will not be the case. It would be lovely to see scouts in uniform or at least their kneckerchiefs at this weeks Clap for carers at 8pm.

You may have seen that the run up to this week’s clap at 7pm ‘The Big Night In’ appeal is being televised for BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief. This will feature Chief Scout Bear Grylls and the The Scouts #HikeToTheMoon.

Again please share your photos and videos from this week’s #ScoutsClapForCarers  using the hashtag on social media and where possible tagging @tarporleyscouts. You can also tag @cheshireScouts for a chance to be part of their #PromiseHouseParty

We hope everyone is keeping well and will get involved in this national event.

Covid-19 update (Scouts still paused)

8 Apr

Post uploaded 8.4.20.

Unfortunately the “lock down” caused by Covid-19 is still in place and we are not sure when scouts will start up again. Keep checking the website if any major changes happen in the news.

During this lock down we have a challenge for our scouts inline with the larger scouts challenge #campathome.

Press the link below to download the Tarporley #campathome challenge. This should have been emailed to everyone too.

Spring Camping Challenge #CampAtHome

We would like our PL’s and APL’s to really try and do the challenge as this will cover essential badge work we can’t do during the lockdown. For the other scouts this still counts as valuable badge work.

Unfortunately our group summer camp will be postponed to a new date (planning not sure at current time).
