Bonfire night and Remembrance parade info

Dear Parents,

BONFIRE & FIREWORKS NIGHT, SATURDAY 3rd NOVEMBER

Our annual Bonfire & Fireworks night will be held on Saturday 3rd November on the field to the south of the Lych Gate for St Helens Church (access past “Molly Mop”). The bonfire will be lit at 6.30 p.m. and the fireworks will be set off starting at 7.00 p.m. The “gates” will be open from 6.00 p.m. PLEASE DO NOT BRING SPARKLERS AS THE SPENT METAL WIRES CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE CATTLE.

This year we will be selling light-sticks, sweets, some refreshments and mulled wine. Entrance fee is £5.00 per adult, £2.50 per child (age 2 to 16) and free for explorers/scouts/cubs/beavers who help us to prepare the bonfire.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We would be very grateful if parents and/or explorers/scouts/cubs could help us build the bonfire, put up the marquee, etc. on Saturday morning 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and/or make good the field on the following Sunday 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. Many hands make light work. Old clothes, a spade (and a rake on the Sunday) and gloves are a must. If you have a wheel-barrow then please bring it along!

REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE, SUNDAY 11th NOVEMBER

Explorers, Scouts and Cubs should turn up at Burton Square (the small triangle of land between the High Street and Utkinton Road at the Chester end of the High Street) at 10.00 a.m. Please note that the High Street is going to be closed off at 10.00 a.m. in readiness for the parade. Therefore, it is probably best to approach from the northeast end of Forest Road and drop your children off at Woodlands Way from which they can walk down to Burton Square. Otherwise I suggest you park in one of the local car parks and walk from there although your car may be trapped for around 30 minutes. Arrangements for Beavers will be a little different and parents of Beavers will be advised separately by Claire Uzum. Explorers, scouts, cubs and beavers should be dressed in smart, full uniform. Black school shoes, black/grey school trousers and a poppy should be worn. A small sum of money for the collection is advisable. Always difficult to predict precisely but proceedings should be over by noon at the Community Centre.

Attendance by cubs, scouts and explorers is regarded as obligatory but if your son / daughter is unable to take part, for good reason, then please let the relevant section leader know.
