Please see note below from Brum around canoeing :

Dear Parents,

Here is another chance of canoeing for a small number of scouts. The next date will be 25th. The canoeing is carried out on the River Dee near the overhead suspension bridge in Chester.

We use the Boys’ Club (there are girls’ facilities too and plenty of girls from other troops go) for changing facilities and canoe equipment so scouts only need to bring the following with them:

Waterproof top & trousers

Old sweatshirt or similar

(If you have a wet-suit then the above items are not necessary)

Swimming trunks / costume

Towel

Spare clothing

Old trainers or pumps

Drink & a snack, e.g. choc. bar

Uniform need not be worn.

Any cuts or broken skin should be well sealed with waterproof plaster or similar before canoeing. After canoeing it is highly advisable that scouts take a bath or shower in the interests of hygiene and safety.

The cost is £5.00 (it has gone up a lot since I last took scouts canoeing there a few years ago but it is still good value) which includes transport.

Scouts should meet me at the Scout Hut at 5.30 p.m. and I would expect to drop them off there at 9.15 p.m. Please ring me or e-mail me if your son /daughter is interested in going and I will book them a place.

We are going to be sending out a letter regarding summer camp. We need to get solid numbers of who’s going so we can arrange costs, activities etc. PLEASE READ AND GET THE LETTER BACK TO US BY NEXT WEEK!!!!!!

Additional note from Brum (GSL):

“Would any scouting families be able to help Tarporley Twinning Association by hosting up to four French children involved with the Association? No knowledge of French is required, although we would hope to find families with children of same sex and similar ages. Full back-up is available from the French leaders and our participants, many of whom it is quite likely that your children will already know.

Nineteen children are coming over on August 20th to 27th, and we are looking for hosts for two 15 year old boys, a 13 year old boy and a 14 year old girl, who are all from good families who many of us have met. There are various activities organised that week which are always a hit. They are free for the French children, and we try to arrange a discounted rate for the hosting children, who we also hope will consider going to Bohars next year. All that is really needed is bed, breakfast, evening meal and transport to the arranged activities, which the host children should also enjoy. It is a fantastic opportunity at very little cost.

It would be a great shame if we had to tell these four children that they can’t come over, particularly when it is such a good way of entertaining your children for a week. If you can help, please phone Anne Rowland on 01829 732407 or 07751 431164 for more details.”Thanks,

Brum (GSL)

3rd June – Bomb disposal

1 Jun

Normal night at the hut 7-9pm.

We will be going out onto the field so bring a coat if the weather looks iffy.

Reminder for all those who haven’t paid subs to get them in ASAP.
